30th Nov 2007

Today at MMI, had quite a good time.

Only 5 PCs done however, as I am quite tired today, but we left at 3.30pm.

Something went VERY wrong today.

Gone to SIM and proceed to print my reference for my CIS320 project on wireless A to Z. Purposely placed my bag at the MOST visible place (the central reading area) on the sofa, which had a clear LOS from my printing station.

However, I was not viligant enough and proceed to surf the site while printing the 100+ pages reference notes. Upon return, I realised that some stuffs (CIS326 notes and a "Wou Bao" newspaper all in a L-shaped transparent folder) in my bag is gone... I did not react much as I am still doubtful if I had placed those in this morning. Then it occurs to me that I did insert a "Wou Bao" newspaper into my bag this morning in MRT and now it is gone...

I calmly proceed to the library counter to seek for assistance. The receptionist direct me to the security counter instead, whom in turn told me that chances are close to nil... I insisted in filling the "Lost and Found" form, while the old security guard told me that usually other students with lost materials did not fill the form unless it is valuable items like HP and laptops, wallets etc.

Whatever, what seems valueless to others doesnt matter. It only matters as long as it matters me.

Later during the break at 0830, I returned to the Library to print some materials again after solving my account problem for CIS 326 forum. It worked. I happens to past by the same spot again and there happens to be another Librarian ard the area.

I approach with the same questions, this time I throw in "confidential files". What amazed me however is her professional response. She explained to me that to view the cameras requires a proper channel of police report despite learning that I had already made a report earlier at the library and security counter - I was expecting a "I see, so you wait then" reply. I thanked her sincerely for telling me the procedure in details. Looks like tomorrow I am gonna take a trip to the Police Post for another report...

A few minutes of inattention resulted in unnessary time wastage and trouble... at end of day, it is my own silly assumption and lack of viligence that resulted in all these... hope that my brain will wake up eariler and fine tune towards this so that such situation can be avoided again...

Mum, please help me to remind myself and help me to stay viligence at all times, so that I can avoid making silly assumptions... Bless me and and bless me that I can recover my lost items Mum =) and make that miserable theif to pay for his/her crime.

Anyway at the end of lecture, I consulted Mr.Tony Tan CIS326 Lecturer, for advices. His words are golden and straight to the point. His view is sharp and analysis is dead accurate. He pinpoint all my problems and justify his suggestion with all valid reasons. To defer the project to another year... Time for a SERIOUS replan for a Plan B...

Mum, you know what? I am now considering signing up the 1 year contract with SCS as On-Site Engineer (OSE) and maybe I will be going to be what is to be first step in my independence...
