28th Nov 2007, Thursday

SMC is an interesting project that I had participated.

From Mark's to Ruder's to Bob's. 1 project 3 different teams. All had their pros and cons.

Mark had a highly automated structure, as Bob's. He is tolerant to mistakes but not excuses. He is kinda wild and so I had a wild start. Made many mistakes while with him and Paul, but Learnt a whole lot more in the process. Overall, a team that I am comfortable with. With Markman the cool guy, with Paul the cool man. Wonderful working environment. I felt motivated to get things done.

Ruder's and Daniel run a more confined management and had everything within their control. This means more interaction and more communication; and therefore more exposure to problems and miscommunications. Concepts versus Details here - Concepts are more important in management, and this is a valuable lesson.

Bob's has been running a highly semi-automated structure. He empowers some individuals to act as "cluster lead" to lead the less competents. He is free to let his trusted liutenants to run a sector of his area freely. Colin, one of his most trusted are allowed to do editing and post it up to the P:\drive for use; he coded some .bat file that simply runs almost everything instead of manual action.

One event cooked up today. Nick, a mute, edited the .bat file and Colin simply went RED, he is so pissed. To me, as a programmer, the proper way is to first backup copy then to edit the extra copy, leaving the original intact - Nick however edited the original directly and ended up screwing up the .bat file. Still, I see not the need to get fumed over it, for a simple talkover will do without all the threatening.

Its unfair for me to rate now, but currently, I have issues integrating into Bob's team culture, and I seem to be unappreciated compared to other 2 teams. Oh well, its only 2 days. Its fine now since there is some time to go... tomorrow... haha... then next week we will merge with Ruder's team for a full force.

Whom do I prefer?

It there is really a need for a choice...

I would say but to be fair, to cast a vote from the rest of the team members... I would say Mark would have the least votes, but I know that he would have at least ONE vote... cuz...
Erm... its ... Oh -- Kof, Koof, KOOF (Cough) "I think I am going to lost my voice to a sore throat" KOOF KOOF. "weeds on the other side always looks like grass" Haha

Looks like I can be a good politician.

Learn an interesting chinese peom from great old. (Finally Learn the full verse)
